This is an 8”x10” sized digitally enhanced vintage botanical print of an orange day lily (Latin name hemerocallis fulva).

Its botanical name translates to "beauty for a day" because of the day-long lifespan of the day lily flowers. Most of them tend to wither away within about 24 hours of blooming, often replaced by another from the same stalk the following day.The orange day lily is considered an invasive perennial in the Mid-Atlantic region according to the US Fish & Wildlife Service and National Park Service. This Lily multiplies mainly through their fibrous roots and rhizomes underground which can get as long as 12 inches. Just about every part of the day lily is edible. Both the flowers the unopened flower buds can be eaten raw, cooked or dried. They are common in Chinese cooking and add a gelatinous texture to soups! It is said that if a daylily opens later (after 7am) or closes earlier (before 7pm) than its usual time then you should watch for rain to come.
